"Nicolas Moreton is a modern master of the medium of stone carving"
Tim Marlow. Director of The Design Museum, London
Since I was small my awareness and relevance of stones have played upon my mind. It's presence creating an intimate, tactile conversation that imposes and engages with our fellow humanity and our connectivity to the universe.
A stone, like us, brings a presence and a story providing a sense of place. Stone is the fabric of our planet that connects our past, present and our future. The way it is shaped and formed creating its own character and personality. It is through utilising the vocabulary of the stone, be it in its natural state, or through its working. I hope to convey an image that will relate to our past and yet resonate to those in our future. Whether it be visualised by figurative or organic form I hope my sculptures small or large can engage with the viewer to celebrate the fertile wonderment of life.
"Moreton’s work is distinguished by sensitive carving of exceptional skill."
Peter Webb Art Historian and author

"His work is sensual, intimate and in many ways quite wondrous, a true labour of love. See it and you will be drawn into its magic like a magnet"

“ From veins and patterns of stone come forth shapes which are anthropomorphic, sensual, and challenging. Each work is unique. These works are intellectually satisfying; they never descend into ornamentality”
Miles Young, Warden of New College, Oxford University.
